Stay Above the weather!!

Hi guys
I am SplitLola and you are on my blog apparently...... and i will keep bringing y'all back to this place whether you like it or not cause SL says so -___-  .
Alright guys, so i have been under the weather for a few weeks now and believe me it hasn't been a great experience. Just when i think im getting better, some drastic climate change will happen and i would go back to the shivers and headaches. This prompted me to do some research on how best to adapt to this sudden or as some people describe it adverse weather change without going under the weather and believe me it has helped me on my road to recovery and maintaining that recovery as well so I decided to share with y’all too.
Believe it or not, sudden climate change weakens your body one way or the other. Recently there have been sudden changes in the weather from breezy, cloudy, cool, and wet to suddenly hot, harsh sun, humid and no cloud cover. Not only is it uncomfortable and sometimes even hot and sweaty, the sudden change in climate has an adverse reaction on our health too!!

But why do we fall ill?
I’m sure the question running through your mind is “why exactly do we fall ill during times like this?” It is not enough telling us that we might fall ill you need to explain why!!! Calm your nerves down yeah, just keep reading and you’ll find out. The body just like every other machine has processes of its own and adapts to things gradually. It is constantly fighting germs that we come in contact with throughout the day through its  immune system.

In the same perspective the internal body temperature and immunity constantly works at keeping you safe when external temperature changes. But with sudden temperature changes the body gets confused and takes a while to adapt. In the process our immunity for that weather goes low and most of us exposed to the horrible heat or cold or lashing rains fall ill.

What are the typical symptoms of weather change?
Mild ones:
  • Sudden headaches (It happens to us all… right? )
  • Flu like symptoms (fever, cold)
  • Getting tired or exhausted (Lazy ass)
  • Acidity problems( whatever!!)
  • Nausea (Dude I just need more sleep)
  • Dizziness (whatever!!!)
  • Increased irritation and aggressiveness (it’s that time of the month doorh!!)
  • Lack of concentration (I’m just gonna take coffee )
  • Mild depression (comes with the stress)
Serious ones:
  • Sleep disorders
  • Aggravation of already existing pain like arthritis
  • Severe migraines
  • Heart Attacks
  • Severe depression that may lead to suicide!
So if you have any of the above reactions without any other plausible reason it could be a reaction to adverse weather changes.

But hey, there are ways to beat that adverse weather change, try the following steps and see you immunity improve vastly.

How can you prevent such reactions?
Here are few things that you can do when you expect a weather change so that your body can be prepared:

  • Increase Vitamin C intakeVitamin C is an anti-oxidant and helps any adverse effects on the digestive front.
  • Decrease sugar intake – Too much sugar impairs the immune system so reducing the intake will help.
  • Have herbal teas – Herbal tea detoxifies the body, improves circulation and increases immunity.
  • Eat garlic – When immunity is low garlic helps in fighting whatever bad symptoms the body has.
  • Less outside food – Don’t tempt outside parasites when your body is prone to falling ill. Outside food is difficult to digest and may carry unwanted bacteria and viruses.
  • Eat a fruit rather than drink the juice – Instead of orange juice, eat the orange fruit. The extra vitamins and fiber will help increasing immunity.
  • Decrease strain on body and mind - Do not over load at the gym or aerobics class especially if the climate is suddenly getting very hot. Make sure you balance your physical activity. Also do not take too much stress; it can make you succumb to an already weakened body.
  • Don’t over work – Do not push your body to its limits even if you do otherwise. During changing weather the body is already weaker than usual. Go easy. Take breaks and manage work better so you do not struggle near deadlines.

  • Get sufficient sleep – The best therapy to keep your body in good condition is to sleep well. 8 hours of sleep at night will  keep your body rejuvenated.
  •
So if you know that the weather has suddenly changed, you know what to do to keep the problems at bare minimum. I hope this write up has been helpful, once again Iam SplitLola and I’m over and out.

D'banj toh yato!!

For all you gossip mongers and entertainment lovers don’t go believing that SL guy doesn’t entertain us as much as he should o!  I always bear you in mind and I’ve got something for you guys. Actually the right phrase should be I’ve got some one for you. He is a multiple award winner, top entertainer, importer / exporter Koko water. For those who don’t already know who I’m talking about his name is D’banj and I am SplitLola and you are currently on my blog :D.
D’banj is certainly one of the biggest names in the Nigerian music industry and Africa as a whole. The multiple award winning Nigerian entertainer has quite a number of hit songs accredited to his name and has recently made moves to ensure he is also recognized as an entertainer worldwide by signing to Kanye’s record label GOOD music. D’banj  who was initially signed under the former Mo’hits records now owns his own record label known as Def Jam Africa after he and the world renowned producer Don Jazzy  split up amidst rumors of a rift between them.
D'banj and Jay Sleek after signing the contract

Recent rumors have it that the musician has signed blooming Nigerian artist “Davido” to his record label. Time will tell how true those reports are. However more news seems to be emanating from the Koko masters record label as reports reaching me claim that he recently signed Jay Sleeks (one of Nigeria’s top producers) to the record label.

The newly signed producer’s first job with the artist as a Def Jam Africa producer was released on Saturday the 14th of July 2012. The song “Oyato”  is the multiple award winning entertainer’s gift to his faithful  fans who stood by him throughout the turmoil that erupted when he and Don Jazzy split up. The artist still used his popular slogans in the song and seems to have re-established his love for the harmonica as the musical instrument could be heard distinctly in the background.

Dbanj is now set to prove those who believe that the artist can't survive without Don jazzy wrong with the release of this new single. Listen to the song and let’s hear what you think. listen here

Does Dbanj have a future without Don Jazzy ?

Enjoy that traffic jam!!!

Hi guys,
So I picked up my phone this morning and the first thing I saw on it was the statement  “To see someone else happy and know that you played a part in that is a beautiful thing” and I immediately came up with the notion that I needed  to be happy so I could make someone else happy too and partake in something beautiful. It was at that moment I discovered that being happy wasn’t as easy as it sounded.  What? With the traffic those of us going to the island have to face every day  and the crazy set of drivers that have filled up the streets of Lagos it’s almost impossible to have a smile on your face while driving. For those of  you who don’t already know, I am SplitLola. A young graduate of Covenant University Otta with a Bsc. in  Management and Information Systems.  I'm a song writer, performing artist, event host and among many other things I’m  a resident of Las Gidi.
I’ve been living in Lagos a little over twenty years and in those twenty plus years, I can’t remember ever going out of my house on a week day without having to face a little bit of traffic so I guess it is safe to say traffic is second nature to a Lagosian.  However the bad traffic situation has reached new heights since the proposed routine maintenance on the third mainland bridge which was scheduled to start on the 1st of July 2012 but due to some unclear circumstances started on the 8th of July 2012. Tomorrow the 14th of July 2012 makes it a week since the routine maintenance on the third mainland bridge in Lagos, Nigeria started and  for those of us who have had to face this simulation of hell on Lagos roads the situation has been nothing short of physical and psychological torment. However in the midst of all that is happening we must find a way to “make light” the experience and as they say enjoy it while it lasts!!!
I’m sure you might be wondering how anyone can ever enjoy sitting in the infamous Lagos traffic but after some research, I have come up with fun ways to ensure the traffic does not end up spoiling our day. One sure way (tested and trusted) is to turn on your car radio and tune to that your favorite music station. If they are doing some talk show or the other, make sure you get a radio station that is playing some good music and just let it loose. The more upbeat the music, the more it will reduce the  traffic jam induced stress. If the stress of your commute has already gotten to you, start with a mellow classical station to calm you down, so that you can regain control. Listen to the music that is playing. Focus solely on the music. Notice the differences of the musical beats and the tones. If there are lyrics, think or sing along to them to focus your brain away from the traffic and onto something more pleasant.
Believe it or not, you reduce the stress of sitting hours in a traffic jam when all the radio stations are on talk radio, by popping a CD into the CD player. Make sure to keep a small collection of CD's in your car at all times. The CDs might vary from various  music CDs to the funny recordings of a comedian. Recording “comedy CDs” is now trending among Nigerian Comedians. Get a number of them and add them to the collections of CDs stashed in your car. I always say “be prepared” so when radio stations have some idiot saying some arrant nonsense on radio, just switch to one of these CDs and laugh your heart out. Make sure to change these CDs every once in a while as even the best old jokes turn stale after some time and may not have the desired effect.  Pop in that CD and it might just save you from that heart attack.
There are more ways of controlling traffic jam induced stress and  one of them is what musicians call the breath exercise. Take in a deep breath through your nose. Hold this breath for 10 seconds and  slowly let the breath out through your mouth. Repeat deep breathing as often as needed to keep your heart beat slow and reduce stress. There are many times during a traffic jam that your heart can start to race. Also try not to focus on preset time lines, where you have to be, and by what time. Setting an inner alarm to the time when you have to be somewhere is just going to add to your stress. There is nothing that you can do to make the traffic move faster so just fucking relax already!!. As “near impossible” as it sounds, think of  other drivers than yourself while you are stuck. Allow someone to pull in front of you instead of forcing them to cut you off. You will be amazed how these little acts of good will will reduce your stress.
I have gone through some really stressful traffic jams here in Lagos, Nigeria  so I decided to do some research and share it with you guys and here’s my conclusion – “Be innovative in times like this, relax and have some fun in that traffic".  I once heard of someone who ordered a Chinese meal in traffic, got the diner to deliver the food to him in traffic and ate the food in traffic so don’t give yourself a damn heart attack, enjoy that traffic jam!!!

Allow me to introduce myself.

Hello Guys (well and ladies too...)!!!

To say im excited would be the understatement of the year!! I finally found the will (and the balls too) to actually start my blog for real Arrggh!!! Only people close to me would understand the outburst. Before I go any further, like Jigga would say "Allow me to introduce my self" IamSplitlola and Of cause that statement doesn't come without a lot history too.

I started singing in church after some five years on this place called earth and its really amazing how I knew even at that time that all i wanted to do was to sing and entertain people with my voice, and i have to say it.... I had a really Good "Pre-puberty voice"!!! and  that is not to say that i now sound like a frog the way most people do after puberty lol. I still have my vocal swagg on!!!... As time went by i started looking to go professional, and the oppourtunity came when my very good friend Bibi who's one of the most creative and relentless Nigerian artists I've ever come across asked me to feature on his first album  (Click to listen to one of Bibi's new singles - Superman High ft Timakori).  I immediately knew this was the opportunity i had being waiting for and my oh my, did i not grab it with both my hands.

Thinking about it now, I think I knew right from the day I made that decision that I couldn't live a normal life anymore. Much more would be expected from me and I was and still am ready to give beyond your expectations. Music has changed how i view life . Its almost impossible to describe that feeling you get when you're trying to explain a situation or scenario through the words of your song. It comes with  the most intense feeling of responsibility as you try to pass the right message across. Again like I said earlier its almost impossible to describe. Over the years, i have come to compose a little over thirty songs, and still counting. I'm  currently working on my first set of singles and it promises to be a huge success.

The performing arts world is large and exciting and as I look to carve a niche for myself in it  I would like to carry you along with me. I would also like to say a BIG thank you  to my friends, fans and well wishers (enemies, critics and evil doers too.....lol) I've been getting a lot of support from you guys and you are the best anyone can wish for. Its been wonderful all the way and as much as asking for more would mean seeming greedy, im here once again to ask you to please visit my blog, post your comments and share the love tell your friends and your enemies too.  I am SplitLola, a  singer/performing artist, presenter and a "gbogbotigbo" entertainer and im always at your service.  And for you guys giving me professional advise, I say another BIG thankyou. I wonder what i would be able to do without you guys!! My only question is when would i start getting your services for free ;).... lol!!

Once again IamSplitLola and im over and Out!!!
